The use case has disappeared today!  Thankfully...  

On the subject of Design by Contract, I found Martin Lachner's
implementation of DBC quite nice for Java.  It's included in the Kopi java
compiler (http://www.dms.at/kopi).

There are a couple of problems with it though.  You can't call a public
method within a constructor without an invariant being checked prematurely.
You also can't use "old" in an interface assertion.
