[jdom-interest] passing elements as arguments to methods

Hi,
I'm a new JDom user. I was trying to do the following:
create a Document from an XML file
modify some of the elements 
pass the modified elements to other class methods
finally, output to the screen the modified XML file.

My problem is that when I pass the modified elements
to another class method, I see that the element is
actually the old one, that is, the one defined in the
file. How can I pass the new element, without writing
to the file first?
Sorry if the question is convulated. Please let me
know if I need to clarify any issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
