I've suggested this before, and Jason's concern then was that JAXP is 
not open source, and it's licensing has caused some issues for the 
XML Apache Project. It's apparently not 100% certain that future 
releases of Xerces-J will support JAXP, especially if they want to 
support DOM Level 3 and other cool new features.
