The interesting thing is that for all of the past concern over minimal
bloat and maximum performance, JDOM seems to do quite the opposite, and
the traditional DOM implementation, Xerces, with its peering system and
all, performs quite well. At least JDOM won the serialization tests.
So for Java to Java systems using serialization, that's a good thing.

Let me say that I'm very pleased that in the past couple of months,
Jason and Brett have eased up with their tight hold over the
architecture and future development of JDOM. The changes that are being
made are good, and may ultimately produce an implementation that
performs as well as its competitors.
