[jdom-interest] XMLOutputter listeners?

Im trying to write a simple editing tool using XMLOutputter to a
TextArea and trying to determine by an Element's text the position of
where to place the caret for the editor but realized it wasn't possible
because the XMLOutputter doesn't really fire off an event when writing
out an Element.

Is it worth even attempting to write a listener and event for
XMLOutputter or would anyone recommend a better method?
