I agree with everything Brett said (especially that my code is great) 
except to add:

Although the value object pattern is more performant, it is a hassle
to write.  It's like, I just *wrote* the damn bean, and now I have to
write it all over again!

Gee, wouldn't it be nice if the container automatically built you a
value object at deploy time?  I wonder if any EJB container authors
are on this list... ;-)
