is you're having a simple CODEBASE/ARCHIVE problem.  When you run
appletviewer it loads classes from the local classpath, which is
probably why it finds xerces.jar.  Running inside the Java Plug-in it's
going to have to get all classes from the CODEBASE and all JARs from the
ARCHIVE list.
