Hi

If you call clone() on a element it will set the parent reference to 
null. So you could do;

Element root = doc.getRootElement();

Element child = root.getChild("config");
if (child != null ) {
	doConfig((Element)child.clone());
} else {
	// Get upset and stuff.....
}
